The academic community has formally and en masse joined the popular revolt. 735 lecturers and well-known names of education and public life have signed a 5-point lightning statement, initiated by the Forum for Political Dialogue, where they insistently demand the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the formation of a caretaker government and the immediate stop of police terror against youth.
Among the 735 signatories stand out prominent figures such as academics Stefan Çapaliku and Ardian Ndreca, Fatos Tarifa, Zyhdi Teqja, Andri Koxhaj, Petraq Milo, Gjok Vuksani, Fatos Qerimaj, Gentian Stroni, Enkeleda Olldashi, Kozeta Bakiu, Suzana Guxholli, Areti Stringa, Voltana Ademi, Enida Bozegu, Lutfi Dervishi, as well as the member of the Senate Academician, Arbër Rendi.
Shocked by the unjustified violence and the open violation of human rights during the days of protest, the lecturers have made it clear that they can no longer stand by as spectators in the face of the oppression of their students.
5 Points of the Statement of Academics:
The Prime Minister is called upon to pave the way for peace in the country by resigning. The creation of a caretaker government is required to ensure institutional stability and respect the will of the citizens.
The State Police and law enforcement agencies are requested to immediately stop acts of violence against students and categorically refuse to implement illegal orders.
Diplomatic missions in Tirana are requested to publicly intervene to stop the violation of fundamental rights and freedoms.
Protesters are called to protect businesses and public and private property, removing from the regime any alibi or pretext to use violence and delegitimize the revolt.
The citizens of Tirana are asked to stand up to the youth and become a shield against state violence, just like in the historical days of the fall of the dictatorship
