The center of Tirana is covered in smoke, while the student protest continues amid fires and strong tensions. Protesters have set fire to benches taken from public spaces near Skënderbej Square, creating another hotbed of fire at one of the capital's main intersections.
The benches were moved to the Durrës Street exit, where they were piled in the middle of the street and then burned. The flames have caused thick plumes of smoke, which have spread in the center of Tirana.
Meanwhile, the demonstrators are divided into two groups. Some of them continue to stay near the Ministry of Education, where it has been reported that a fire has started again inside the premises of the institution.
The other group is concentrated at the exit of Durrës Street, near the benches engulfed in flames.
The situation remains tense on the second day of the student protest, which has been accompanied by clashes between demonstrators and the police, throwing stones and the intervention of law enforcement with tear gas and pressurized water.
