After seven months at the head of the General Directorate of Prisons, I have decided to resign from this position.

For me this was not an easy period, as there were problems that required immediate intervention, difficult decisions that had to be made and responsibilities that could not be postponed even for minutes. I have tried to face them with maximum commitment, always keeping in mind the people and institutions for which I was responsible.

During these months, my work has been focused on strengthening security, improving administration and modernizing the penitentiary system. The advantages have been the increase of accountability, the support of the professionalism of the employees and the improvement of the treatment conditions of the persons serving the sentence.

I believe that a modern penitentiary system is also measured by the way it treats people, by respecting their rights, by transparency and by the real opportunities it gives them to rehabilitate and return to society. This has been the conviction that has guided me in this task.

There have also been criticisms, objections and stones thrown at this work.

I tried to listen to criticism, even when it was difficult. In the face of obstacles, we have continued to work. About some other things, time will speak more clearly than I can today.

Today I leave with gratitude to all those who worked with me, who shared responsibilities and who stayed close to this work until the end. I know how much dedication the daily work in this system requires and I appreciate everyone's contribution.

I thank the Ministry of Justice, in particular the minister Mr. Toni Gogu for the trust and cooperation, the leaders and employees of the penitentiary system, as well as all the collaborators, for the support and contribution during this period.

I leave office with respect for the responsibility entrusted to me and with the desire that the work started continues in the service of a safer, fairer and more human penitentiary system.
