The entrance to Tirana for those coming from the North will change radically,
marking the end of the long traffic nightmare in the center of Kamza and at the Lapraka turn.
The Albanian Road Authority has taken the first official steps for the construction of a New Northern Entrance,
a strategic axis of about 17 kilometers that will divert the entire flow of transit vehicles
directly on the Great Ring Road of the capital.
The new project, which is expected to be financed from the state budget during the years 2026-2028 with an initial limit fund of 1.8 million euros only for the design phase, will ultimately change the traffic map at the entrance of Tirana.
How will travel from the North change?
Until today, every vehicle coming from Shkodra, Lezha or Kukësi was forced to cross the center of Kamza and get blocked at the Kamza Bend. With the new axis, this route is deleted.
The new road will operate as a four-lane main intercity road and will follow this new route:
• Departure: Vehicles coming from the Thumanë-Kashar highway will be diverted immediately to the southern part of the Rinas junction (Km 0,000).
• Route: The road will pass through the fields of Valias and Zallherr (near the Military Department), completely bypassing the residential area and the center of Kamza.
• Conclusion: The new axis will go directly to Paskuqan, connecting organically with Lot 7 of the Great Ring of Tirana.
Direct connection to Elbasan and Corridor VIII
In addition to avoiding the Kamza, this change brings a great advantage for vehicles that have a destination in the southeast of the country.
Drivers coming from the North can enter the Great Ring Road in Paskuqan and go directly to the Tirana-Elbasan highway (Corridor VIII) without stopping at any traffic lights and without entering the internal roads of Tirana at all.
According to the Terms of Reference of ARRSH, the design companies have a deadline of 10 months for the design of the Project-Idea (where two track variants will be examined) and another 8 months for the detailed Project-Implementation.
After the approval of the expropriation reports and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), the project will be opened for tendering of field works.
