The State Police reacted after the escalation of the protest in front of the Ministry of Education in Tirana,

warning of criminal consequences for persons involved in acts of violence,

attacks on officers and destruction of public and private property.

Through an official statement, the Police has called on the protesters to maintain calm

and immediately distance themselves from persons who commit violent acts.

In response, it is emphasized that the Penal Code foresees punishments of up to 7 years of imprisonment for certain crimes related to violence and destruction of property by fire, depending on the circumstances and consequences.

“The State Police requests that every participant not take part, not support and not allow the gathering to be used as a cover for violent and destructive acts,” the statement said.

According to the Police, any person who attacks law enforcement officers, uses violence or causes damage to property will bear individual responsibility for his actions.

The authorities emphasize that the burning and destruction of property pose a direct risk to the lives of citizens, as well as to the safety of public and private property.

“Immediately distance yourself from violence, stay away from people who commit violent acts and do not get involved in actions that endanger people's lives!”, appeals the State Police.

At the end of the reaction, the Police underlines that the right to protest is guaranteed, but that acts of violence and destruction cannot be justified through the exercise of this right.

“Any violation of the law will be dealt with decisively and each individual will be held accountable for their actions,” the statement concluded.

The reaction comes after the tensions recorded during the protest in the capital, where Molotov cocktails, hard objects and pyrotechnic devices were reported thrown at the Ministry of Education and police officers.
