Fires have been going on for two days in several mountainous areas of Kukes, while fire services, residents and other operational forces are working to isolate the outbreaks and bring them under control.
One of the most problematic outbreaks is in the village of Kollovoz, where the difficult mountainous terrain is hindering the intervention of the firefighting forces. According to preliminary data, about 50 hectares of land with bushes and thorns were involved in the fire.
To extinguish the fire, the fire service of Kuka Municipality, residents of the area and other operational forces were engaged. Crews are working to contain the fire and prevent the flames from spreading further.
Meanwhile, another fire was detected today in the village of Surroj, in the area of the mountains, in the place called Qafë-Kali. The fire services have gone to the area for intervention and to assess the situation on the ground.
The causes of the fires in both areas are still unknown. Relatively high winds and temperatures for this autumn period are favoring the spread of flames and making it difficult for the forces on the ground to intervene.
Fortunately, both outbreaks are located far from residential areas and so far no direct danger to residents has been reported.
