In the evening hours of Monday, the situation escalated in Pristina after the protest in front of the Assembly of Kosovo in which the protesters demanded that the Draft Law on the amendment of the Law on Specialized Chambers be passed to the second reading.

On the street “Agim Ramadani” in the capital, the Special Unit came out with an armored car and a “cannon” of water with the aim of dispersing the protesters. A tense situation also reigned in the areas around the Assembly of Kosovo, where tear gas was once again thrown in the direction of the protesters.

Previously, on “Agim Ramadani” street, containers were burned and tear gas was thrown, while the protesters threw pyrotechnic devices in the direction of police officials and the institution of the Assembly of Kosovo.

Çlirim Haziri, one of the organizers of the protest, said that the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xelal Sveçla attacked women and children in front of them and ran away.

“That Jelal who today sits on the couch that was raised on the blood of the martyrs, today fell on us, hunted us in front of our children, in front of our wives, in front of our mothers and ran away with his tail under the saddle. Just like a cuckoo. They continue to hunt us, and we will continue to resist, we will not stop,” Haziri told the protesters.

Meanwhile, the Kosovo Police has said that despite the requests and continuous calls made to the protesters to respect the law and protest peacefully, the police officers were forced to use tear gas to enable the exit of the deputies from the Assembly of Kosovo and to bring the situation under control. The police said that material damage was caused, but no serious injuries were reported.

“Despite the demands of continuous calls from the Police, to respect the law, to protest peacefully, the police officials were forced to use legal police tools, tear gas, to enable the exit of the personalities from the Assembly and to bring the situation under control. As a result of the throwing of various objects, pyrotechnic devices, fireworks, the lighting of some garbage containers and fires on the street by the protesters, material damage was caused, but fortunately no serious injuries have been reported so far. The Kosovo Police reiterates that it recognizes the right of citizens to protest and express grievances in a peaceful and democratic manner and continues to appeal to all participants to protest calmly, not to damage public property and to respect the laws. While the protest continues, police officers will be present on the ground to guarantee public order and safety, as well as the safety of citizens and state facilities. and the progress of the protest continue to be the priority of the Kosovo Police”, says the announcement of the Kosovo Police, reports Koha.net.

The Kosovo Police has also published a communiqué with the latest data from the protest that escalated in Pristina. As stated in the announcement, six police officers were injured and received medical treatment, and 11 protesters also requested medical assistance.
As further stated in the announcement, the Kosovo Police intervened with tear gas, including water cannon to disperse the protesters in order to prevent further escalation of the situation.

During the day, the protesters have taken violent actions against several deputies of the Vetëvendosje Movement, namely Farush Rexhepi and Sami Kurtesh. The Government official, Besnik Bislimi, was also hindered, while physical violence was used against the journalist Jeton Sopa.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo has not reacted to the behavior of the protesters towards the deputies and the attack on the Assembly, but has condemned, as they said, the violence of the police against the protesters. The PDK has asked the state bodies to “stop any disproportionate action that is seriously infringing on the citizens” right to protest".
